Medaad is an activated carbon manufacturer and supplier offering Medaad OraPure to gold extraction plants in Tanzania. OraPure is a coconut shell granular activated carbon for CIP, CIL, CIC and heap leach circuits, sold in bulk to gold mining companies and processing plants of every scale, from small scale CIL plants to large carbon in pulp operations. Each order is quoted on mesh size, quantity, packing and delivery location.
For a gold plant, activated carbon is a recurring purchase that directly affects recovery. After cyanide dissolves the gold from the ore, the carbon captures the dissolved gold cyanide complex so it can be stripped, refined and poured. Its quality therefore decides how much gold is loaded, how much is lost on fine carbon, and how often new carbon has to be bought.
Medaad is the adsorption chemicals brand of the SorbiTech Group, manufacturing under ISO 9001:2015 and serving customers in more than 40 countries. OraPure belongs to our range of activated carbon for gold recovery. Coconut shell was chosen as its raw material because its dense structure produces a hard carbon rich in the fine pores where gold adsorption takes place.
OraPure in Gold Extraction Circuits
Ore type, grade and plant design decide which gold extraction process an operation runs. The carbon does the same job in every one of them, capturing gold from solution, but each circuit treats the carbon differently. Select a circuit to see how OraPure works within it.
CIP · Carbon in PulpIn carbon in pulp, cyanide dissolves the gold in a first set of leach tanks before the slurry moves on to a separate train of adsorption tanks. Screens hold the carbon in each tank while the slurry flows through, and the carbon is advanced against the flow, so the most heavily loaded carbon leaves from the first adsorption tank for elution. Because the same carbon is pumped and screened many times on its way through the train, hardness is the property that matters most.CIL · Carbon in LeachIn carbon in leach, the carbon sits in the leach tanks themselves, so gold is adsorbed as soon as it dissolves. Combining the two stages shortens the circuit and reduces gold losses to organics, which suits ores containing natural carbonaceous material. The carbon spends longer in an agitated, abrasive slurry, so a hard carbon with a good adsorption rate matters most here.CIC · Carbon in ColumnIn carbon in column, clarified gold bearing solution flows upward through a series of columns and lifts the carbon into fluidized beds. With no ore solids present, recovery depends on good contact between solution and carbon and on carbon that does not break down as the bed moves. Particle size and platelet content matter here, and OraPure is processed through screening systems to reduce platelets.Heap LeachIn heap leaching, cyanide solution is spread over a pile of crushed ore and percolates down through it, dissolving gold on the way. The gold bearing solution collects in a lined pond and is pumped through carbon columns, where OraPure adsorbs the gold. The route suits lower grade ores, where treating large tonnages at low cost matters more than fine milling.
OraPure Performance Features
These are the features of Medaad OraPure and what each one refers to in a gold extraction circuit.
Adequate adsorption rateThe rate at which carbon takes up gold from cyanide solution as it moves through each adsorption stage.
Good hardness and attrition resistanceMechanical strength against wear as carbon is pumped, screened, eluted and regenerated in the circuit.
Optimized pore structureA pore structure suited to adsorbing the gold cyanide complex from leach solutions.
Low platelet contentPlatelets are thin, flat particles. OraPure is processed through screening systems to reduce platelet formation.
Consistent performanceMechanical strength suited to CIP, CIL, CIC and heap leach recovery methods.
Good gold loading capacity (K value)The K value is a laboratory measure of how readily a carbon adsorbs gold from solution.
Easily reactivatedSuited to acid washing and thermal reactivation between adsorption cycles.
Low moisture and ash contentMoisture and ash are standard quality parameters for activated carbon, and OraPure is made with low levels of both.
Economical operationDesigned for gold recovery operations where efficiency and cost are balanced.
Clean handlingOraPure is dedusted before packing.

Regeneration of Spent Carbon
When loaded carbon leaves the adsorption circuit, the gold is stripped from it in the elution column. The stripped carbon is then acid washed to remove calcium and other scale, and thermally reactivated in a kiln to burn off organics and reopen its pores. Reactivated OraPure returns to the circuit alongside fresh makeup carbon, which replaces the portion lost to wear.
Activated Carbon Supply and Pricing for Tanzania
Medaad manufactures OraPure and sells it directly, so specification and pricing come from the producer. We ship to Tanzania and across East Africa, with delivery terms agreed for each order. Orders range from trial quantities for a first circuit charge to regular bulk supply, and plants with steady consumption can plan repeat orders around their monthly makeup carbon use.
The price of activated carbon for gold extraction depends on mesh size, order quantity, packing and delivery location, so each quotation is prepared for the specific order. Including the following details in your enquiry helps our team prepare a quotation.
- ProcessCIP, CIL, CIC or heap leach, the circuit the carbon will be used in
- SizeYour preferred mesh size or the aperture of your interstage screens
- QuantityThe order volume and expected monthly consumption, for planning repeat supply
- PackingThe bag or drum that suits how you store and charge carbon
