What are industrial adsorbents?

Industrial adsorbents are materials used to remove impurities such as moisture, odors, gases, and dissolved contaminants from liquids or gases. Common types include activated carbon, silica gel, molecular sieve, activated alumina, and carbon molecular sieve.

A desiccant is a type of adsorbent specifically designed to remove moisture or humidity. All desiccants are adsorbents, but not all adsorbents are desiccants. For example, activated carbon removes odors and organics, while silica gel removes water vapor.

Ceramic balls are used as inert support media in packed beds, towers, and reactors. They provide mechanical strength and help evenly distribute flow across the active adsorption or catalytic layer.

Choosing the right adsorbent depends on:

  • The type of contaminant (moisture, CO₂, VOCs, fluoride, etc.)
  • Operating temperature and pressure
  • Flow rate and cycle time
